About Us

Glencoe 2008 Trevor 076We're one of the longest running walking groups in the region with around 260 members.
Walking is great fun, whether it's to get outdoors, get fit or to meet new people - you can do all of these with Sunderland Walking Club. All our walk leaders and committee members are volunteers, dedicated to sharing our fantastic countryside with others.
We have a huge range of walks on our programme from 8 miles to 16 miles with varying heights of climbing in the local National Parks and surrounding area. Our Saturday and Sunday coaches give the choice of walks that have three or more different routes with all of them ending at the same pick up point, usually near a tea shop or pub for refreshments and a brief chat before we head for home!

Here is a summary of what we offer:-

SUNDAYS: by coach as per programme listing, with a choice of four separate walks on each occasion, with different grades of difficulty (indicated on the programme by distance and feet of climb involved).

SATURDAYS: weekly by public transport in the local area normally graded D and E walks. Once monthly by coach offering three grades of walk similar to a Sunday programme.

TUESDAYS: by public transport, weekly, in the local area. One grade is offered, usually low level approximately 6 miles.

WEDNESDAYS: by private cars, weekly, where car sharing can usually be arranged. One grade of walk is offered, as specified in the programme.

We also have weekends away each year, with regular trips to Scotland and the Lake District.
Check out our Walks & Events Programme to see what's on this weekend.

If you would like to attempt leading a walk yourself, we'd be happy to help you with training and tips.
